Ranging from comedy, theatre, dance, circus, cabaret, musicals, opera, spoken word, concerts, children’s shows and so much more.

Edinburgh is also the world’s first UNESCO City of Literature, and home to The Edinburgh International Book Festival. If films are more your thing then don’t worry, The Edinburgh International Film Festival takes place every year too. Looking for something for the children? Then pop The Edinburgh International Children’s Festival into your diary. There literally is a festival for everyone!

Scotland has 6 UNESCO World Heritage sites; two being in Edinburgh – Edinburgh New and Old town; and the Forth Road Bridge.

Have a wander through Edinburgh Old Town’s narrow winding lanes, steep staircases, hidden alleyways and closes. Start your historic journey at the medieval fortress of Edinburgh Castle, perched on a 340 million year old volcanic rock. Then wander all the way down the notable Royal Mile which hosts many of the most popular tourist attractions such as Camera Obscura, Mary Kings Close and St Giles Cathedral ending up at Holyrood Palace – a stones throw away from the Scottish Parliament.

Be sure to explore the ever so picturesque Grassmarket – one of Edinburgh’s most historic market squares since the Middle Ages. Steeped in history this area is oozing with charm and eccentricity. Now a hive of independent and vintage shops, eateries and pubs – it once had a much darker past. If you felt the hairs on the back of your neck stand up whilst wandering around the Grassmarket then it could have something to do with the public executions that used to take place in the square….some even for witchcraft!!

Anyway onto brighter dwellings. Why don’t you visit one of Edinburgh’s prettiest streets – Victoria street built between 1829-32 is the inspiration for Harry Potter’s Diagon Alley. A colourful array of vibrant face fronts, this charming cobblestone street curves into a mosaic for history – it is one of instagrams most photographed street.

Explore in awe Edinburgh’s 18th-century neoclassical New Town’s elegant Georgian neighbourhoods, grand squares and stately terraces. A wonderful mix of classical architecture within a planned townscape.
Dividing the old and new town is the beautiful Princes St Gardens. Once it used to be the location of Nor Loch but now you can enjoy a a leisurely stroll and picnic (weather permitting!) through beautiful gardens with views of Edinburgh castle. You can also climb the 287 steps to the Scott monument – the largest monument dedicated to a writer in the world.

For the shopping conscious you can browse through Princes Street for some high street fashion and then head over to George street for some drinks and lunch. For those who prefer more luxury shopping then Multrees Walk is the place to be. With Scotland’s only Harvey Nichols and Louis Vitton Stores, it’s a shoppers haven!
